XML parse error on line XXXXXX...

I've started getting an XML parse error since the last time I processed the full planet OSM - Not sure how to work around this, anybody have any ideas?

I should point out I did check the md5 and it's clean. I've looked at the XML, but I'm not that familiar with it, so I'm not sure if line XXXX is actually that line in the file, or if it's some element within it. Also, osmium doesn't seem to have any trouble processing it.

First: Don't use the XML planet, use the PBF planet. It is much much faster to process. Second: If you want help, we'll need more than a vague error message. If you can tell us exactly which file you used with what command line, with what version of osm2pgsql and the exact error message, someone might be able to reproduce the problem.

I'll give the PBF a shot. As to the error message, vague is what I got.

2025-12-20 19:25:29 ERROR: XML parsing error at line 57450257, column 1: unclosed token

Using planet-251215.osm.bz2, osm2pgsql version 2.0.1.

That's not vague at all. That's a very specific error message now which helped me track down the problem. The error is due to a bug in the underlying libosmium library which has been fixed there but it is not in a released version yet. So this will be fixed in due course also in osm2pgsql. This bug does not affect the PBF files, so you should be okay if you switch.

groovy, thanks! I'm redownloading the pbf now - I didn't realize it really mattered performance-wise so I had downloaded the first planet file I found and PBF wasn't on the list. I found another source and am giving it a go.
