It fails only in Gitlab CI jobs and only for x86 and x86_64

Looks like it started to happen consistently 2-3 releases ago

Probably it caused by slow PR_SET_PDEATHSIG in CI

@andypost Does the problem go away when increasing $max_tries? I don't see a big issue bumping this to something higher.
